Chapter 11 She's afraid of you.
Chapter 11 She's afraid of you.
"He said..." Su Wanwan bit her lip, "He said he knew we got married for a reason. His family wanted to fulfill their parents' wishes, and our family wanted to find someone to rely on."
"and then?"
"Then he said he couldn't have children, and that I knew about it." Su Wanwan's voice was even lower. "He also said about our sex life... he respects me, and if I don't want to, we can stop."
Lin Weiwei raised an eyebrow: "Isn't this great? It shows respect for you."
"It's good..." Su Wanwan twisted her fingers, "but when he said it, his face was so cold, and his tone was so cold. I felt... I felt like he was telling me that he couldn't do it, so I shouldn't count on him."
She paused, then continued, "I comforted him, saying that medical technology is advanced now, and he can get treatment..."
"and then?"
"Then his face darkened, and he said no. I felt like I'd said something wrong, but I didn't know what to say. He just kept that dark look on his face, and I felt so scared that I didn't want to stay with him anymore..."
Lin Weiwei sighed and put her arm around her shoulder: "It's alright, it's alright."
Bai Rongbei is just like that; he speaks frankly and doesn't mince words, but he's not a bad person at heart.
"I know," Su Wanwan said. "I just... I've never been this close to a man before, and I've never been in a relationship, so I don't know how to talk to him."
"Take it slow." Lin Weiwei patted her back. "Look at me and Bai Si'an, didn't we end up together by chance? We were just kissing passionately, but I think I offended him too."
She remembered the kiss from earlier, and her face felt a little hot.
But then she remembered Bai Si'an's gloomy face, and she felt that Bai Si'an seemed to be angry too.
Su Wanwan's attention immediately shifted to Lin Weiwei. "Weiwei, I was wondering why your face was so red earlier. So you were sleeping with a man. It's all my fault for disturbing you."
Lin Weiwei said dejectedly, "Luckily you came. If you hadn't come, it would have been quite awkward for both of us. He seemed to have bumped his foot just now, and I offered to rub it for him, but his face immediately darkened, which completely killed my interest, and I didn't want to continue with him."
Su Wanwan understood her best friend's problem and comforted her, "Well, Bai Si'an is quite arrogant, and legs are probably his Achilles' heel... You just mentioned legs, so he got angry."
"Then if he's so capable, he shouldn't use his legs. I'm his wife, and I can't even look at his legs? If he won't let me see them, I won't bother looking at them anymore," Lin Weiwei said defiantly.
"Sigh, forget it, neither of those men is any good. Let's stop thinking about them and go to sleep."
Next door, Bai Rongbei was sitting in a chair, staring blankly at the kerosene lamp on the table.
He went to fetch water and came back to find that his wife was gone.
There was a knock on the door, and he thought it was Su Wanwan returning, so he quickly got up to open it.
He opened the door and saw Bai Si'an standing outside.
Bai Rongbei was taken aback. "Why are you here?"
"Your wife kidnapped my wife." Bai Si'an walked in, sat down in a chair, and said, "Let me sleep here with you."
Bai Rongbei: "..."
He closed the door, walked to the bedside, and sat down: "What happened?"
"I don't know," Bai Si'an said. "Your wife said the two sisters wanted to talk."
Bai Si'an pushed up his glasses but didn't say anything.
There was a moment of silence in the room.
Bai Rongbei suddenly spoke up: "How are things going between you and Lin Weiwei?"
Bai Si'an paused for a moment, then said, "It's alright."
"Didn't she mind that you had difficulty walking?" Bai Rongbei asked directly.
Bai Si'an felt uncomfortable recalling how Lin Weiwei had tried to massage his legs earlier, but he still stubbornly replied, "No."
Bai Rongbei glanced at him, noticing the curve of his lips, but said nothing.
"Where's Su Wanwan?" Bai Si'an asked. "Did you two... have a fight?"
"We didn't argue," Bai Rongbei said. "We just exchanged a few words, and then she didn't want to stay with me anymore."
He briefly recounted the conversation that had just taken place.
After listening, Bai Si'an pushed up his glasses and said, "Brother, you're too blunt."
"To tell you the truth," Bai Rongbei said, "there's no point in hiding this."
"But you could have put it more tactfully," Bai Si'an said. "Women are sensitive, and if you're so direct, she definitely won't accept it."
Bai Rongbei remained silent.
Bai Si'an continued, "Besides, you said you could abstain from marital relations, which sounds like you can't do it."
Bai Rongbei's face darkened: "I can't?"
"I'm not saying you're really not good enough," Bai Si'an quickly said, "I'm just saying that sounds like it. Women are more perceptive and tend to overthink things."
Bai Rongbei was silent for a moment, then said, "I'm just respecting her."
"I know," said Bai Si'an, "but you can put it another way. For example... take your time, no rush."
Bai Rongbei glanced at him: "You certainly know how to talk."
Bai Si'an pushed up his glasses: "A technician values communication efficiency."
Bai Rongbei didn't reply. He got up and walked to the window, looking at the dark Gobi Desert outside.
"Actually..." he suddenly spoke, his voice very low, "I'm not completely incapable."
Bai Si'an was taken aback: "Brother?"
"The doctor said there's an injury, but it's not entirely hopeless," Bai Rongbei said slowly, "it's just that the chances are slim."
He turned around and looked at Bai Si'an: "I haven't told anyone about this, and you shouldn't tell anyone either."
Bai Si'an nodded: "I know."
"If Su Wanwan asks, just say no," Bai Rongbei said. "So she doesn't get her hopes up and then get disappointed later."
Bai Si'an looked at him and suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
His brother has always been a tough guy since he was a child, and he always shoulders everything on his own.
For a man, injuring his body is the biggest blow, but he never showed it.
"Brother..." Bai Si'an wanted to say something, but didn't know what to say.
"Alright," Bai Rongbei waved his hand. "Go to sleep."
The two brothers quickly washed up and lay down on the bed.
The bed wasn't big; it was a bit cramped for two big men to lie down in it.
Because of his leg injury, Bai Si'an slept inside, while Bai Rongbei slept outside.
The room was pitch black, with only a little moonlight filtering in through the window.
